March 31, 2020 - Superb wine. Deep and rich. Cedar and smoke in the nose. Good body with tannin giving it a substantial mouth feel. Still powerful so it might last for several more years before age catches up with it.

February 8, 2020 - Seven wines from 1978 (CA and WA), and a few others...: WOTN. Saturated cork, but it came out in one piece. Surprisingly dark appearance. Soaring nose of dark cherry, tack room, humidor, spicy plum skin, currant. I was floored at how much great fruit and life this had. Delicious, contemplative, and a real head-turner. What a wine.

December 12, 2013 - 1978 California Cabernet Sauvignons (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Slightly corked nose, but still good (B+). Good, soft palate (B).
    My #6, Group's #6 (103 pts). Tasted blind.

December 25, 2008 - This was from a magnum, purchased at auction so no clue as to the provenance of this wine up to the time I bought it. Opened with an Ah-So because of the age and the cork was in great shape, wine soaked a little over half way. Poured into a decanter for sediment. The color was more like a 10 year old Cab, no bricking just solid deep red color, the nose was not promising, kind of dirty and musty, on the palate it was a bit muted, thought it was over the hill. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and tried again, what a difference those 20 minutes made. The nose was leather, spice, fruit. In the mouth the wine had morphed into a beautiful wine with dark silky fruit and a wonderful full mouth-feel. Nice finish that lasted half a minute. Drank over three hours and the wine held up over the whole time. Having next to no hope for this wine when I opened it this is my surprise wine of 2008.

October 6, 1990 - 10 Cabernets Tasted at Primas with John Shafer. Was the first wine poured and had a dull, red center color surrounded by brown edges in the glass, but had a rich, spicy nose and slightly sour fruit on the palate, past its prime, medium lingering finish. My #8 and Group #6..
