  May 8, 2020 - An open but heavy bouquet of old leather, cherries, hints of jasmine flowers, burnt tobacco with overtones of toasty oak and hot stones. Quit a dense tarry nose too. The same flavours in the nose flowed to the palate. A robust structure, warm and savoury with grilled meat in the mid-palate. Not at all elegant. Everything is hidden inside the opaque structure. Transition is somewhat patchy for now. Finish is chalky with sour cherries and tar. Too heavy toast in the oak for my taste. A few more years of aging might help to tone down the heavy toast if the fruits hold up. 87-89.
  
  Tasted better on the second day, all the strong toasty oak is gone, allowing the more subtle notes like very ripe cherries, leather and hints of fennel to shine through. Still rather powerful and rough at the edges in the mid-palate, lacking the finesse to be among the TOP Brunello. Revising the score to 89 pts.
