Community Tasting Notes 3

Austere. Dressed in a rough habit considered sacred, the head bowed and the austere posture during the religious procession. The Batù, lay members of the homonymous fraternity.”

A Barbaresco with a mysterious charm, refined for at least 26 months. The bright color fades from ruby red to garnet. The bouquet is intense, ethereal and spicy. Opening lets you see first dried rose, dried cherry, and red fruit jam, then explosive notes of cinnamon, cloves, allspice and tobacco, and at the end a breath of vanilla and cedar. The flavor is dry, vigorous, and balanced: in two words complex but delicate. The tannins are well integrated and soft.

April 6, 2021 - Alright so overall I thought the wine was pretty good but I will knock it for being a bit dried out. Some would call this super complex but the core of fruit and other usual notes of baking spice, rose petals and tar were not too present unfortunately. The fruit itself was either underdeveloped or hidden by some funky old oak.
I did like the dark fruit component to it that was there, although I much prefer the red cherry, raspberry and pomegranates. Much of the same on the nose. Acid was not too high, full bodied wine and went great with the slow cooked pork and veggies. The finish was nonexistent due to being dried out.
