Community Tasting Notes 4

January 1, 2024 - Good. Typical long maceration aromatics. Good fruit bezind and incredible structure. Delicious!

  • Barolo Raymond Likes this wine: 90 points

September 11, 2019 - No notes taken. Want to capture this amazingly nice wine. Stylistically speaking reminded it me of a Loire Cabernet Franc like Bourgueil with an elegant and firm tannic expression balanced by bright acidity.

June 22, 2019 - Burnt Hill Summer Solstice Festival (Clarksburg, Maryland): Dark tart, anise, incense sticks, tangy plum skins and pepper. Fun!

April 6, 2019 - Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whts, & 8 Reds] from 04/05/19 + 5 Shared Bottles (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): From the winery's site: "Saperavi - meaning 'something to color with,' or 'to dye,' is Georgia’s leading red grape variety. A very old variety, it is Georgia’s most widely planted red grape. This variety gives wines that are inky, often fully opaque, with aromas of dark berries, licorice, grilled meat, tobacco, chocolate, & spices. Texturally, the wine is sappy and tannic, with considerable acidity. The wines have aromas of red berries or black fruit."

N: Closed, but RIPE berries, poss with pyrazines underneath?

P: Med, poss MF, body; Rndish entry with ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by some astringent pucker which pretty much resolves by the LONG, balanced finish with a tangy/swtness to the fairly tame, dusty tannins. For now & through '22, poss longer. IMPRESSIVE! My EXC, & I'd entertain an argument for more based upon the QPR of this vendor's $21.95, for which I saw no other sources. [FYI: budosyu was not nearly as impressed as I, describing it as reminding him of an entry level Gigondas.]
