January 29, 2024 - I think this may still be too young. There is a lot of material here, and it is delicious in its way, but it feels like there will be more complexity and delineation with further aging. I would hold for now. Hard to justify the value at $59 but, hey, it's G. Rinaldi!

February 14, 2023 - Lovely, earthy, herbal nose…tangy acids and graceful blackberry and raspberry fruit on the palate. Delicious barbera.

January 2, 2023 - Xmas & New Year in Japan; 12/19/2022-1/6/2023 (Japan): On the nose, balsamic, blueberry, plum, herbs, forest floor, sweet spice. Gorgeous silky mouthfeel. Lovely, transparent earthy character in the mid-palate. Velvety tannin. Very long finish. With a bit of time in glass, red fruits came through more with cherry. Beautifully combines elegance & purity with concentration of fruit. Excellent.

March 11, 2022 - My personal "unwritten rule", to give all G. Rinaldi Barberas (as well as Dolcetto & Freisa) like at least 3+ years after release, seems to be just right, when drinking the 2017 today. Time in bottle smoothened it; the juicyness and huge fruit of the vintage are still here, just more pliant and generous. Red & black cherry, blueberry, red gooseberry (especially on the nose), licorice, sweet spices, a small handful of garden herbs and some slate emerge in a lush, intense and fruity environment. The mouthfeel is crystalline with a kick of pushing Barbera acidity, the perfect counterpoise to the intense, sweetish fruit. This Barbera has plenty of additional time in its lifespan.
