December 25, 2021 - I enjoyed, big nose although depth was flat. Paired well with my steak.

November 21, 2021 - Really extracted, manufactured nose showing black cherry and a lot of sweet oak/vanilla notes. Between medium and full bodied with mostly very soft black cherry notes upfront. Adds some blackberry hints through the mid-body and some light red cherry qualities towards the back. Mid-body felt almost processed and way over extracted. Very integrated on the finish, but to the degree that there was little in the way of contrast or length. Lots of vanilla qualities and sweet, soft oak notes on the relatively short finish.

Overall, to say I disappointed by this wine would be a major understatement. I know the winery's current reputation, but I was hoping against hope that maybe, just maybe, people were being overly critical. I remember how much I enjoyed the 1994, 95 and 96 vintages of this wine and tried to go in with an open mind. But if this bottle was any indication, the critics are completely correct. This wine had no sense of place and little varietal character. As noted above, it felt manufactured and processed to show big fruit and be immediately accessible upon release. At only six years old, what we're left with is a wine that has little tannin, contrast or structural qualities, very soft, simple fruit notes and masses of sweet oak and vanilla trying to hold it together. I know my tastes have changed over the years, but I can't help but be sad that this is the style of wine that Silver Oak produces today.

November 5, 2021 - Good, not great. A bit over paled and not great depth. Solid fruit and nice finish. Paired well with steaks.
