    December 4, 2021 - 13,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Slightly evolved pomegranate red color that permits a little bit of light through. Slightly evolved and somewhat oak-driven nose with aromas of toasty mocha oak, some wizened dark berry tones, a little bit of ripe blueberry, light leathery notes, oaky hints of sweet vanilla and cloves and a touch of fresh blackcurrant. The wine feels concentrated and ripe yet dry on the palate with a full body and intense flavors of juicy blackcurrants, some toasty mocha oak, a little bit of vanilla, light evolved leathery notes, a hint of cherry and a touch of tomato paste. The overall feel is very balanced and surprisingly structured with its high acidity and quite ample medium-plus tannins that pile up on the gums. the finish is long, juicy and moderately grippy with rather powerful flavors of savory spices and sweet cassis, some vanilla-driven notes of oak, a little bit of toasty mocha character, light evolved notes of wizened red fruits, a hint of clove and a umami-rich touch of tomato paste.

Although this is a quite ripe and somewhat oaky Cali Cab, this is surprisingly harmonious and balanced at that - not in small part due to the firm, muscular structure that keeps the richness of ripe fruit and sweet overtones well in check. In a certain sense, this is a classic, well-made Cali Cab in both good and bad; it is big and ripe yet not overtly so, coming across as very balanced and structured for such, but still a bit heavily oaked, lending a slightly glossy - even a bit spoofy - overall character to the wine. Nevertheless, the wine leaves a positive impression and I feel it is going to improve from here with some additional age. Perhaps another 5 years would do the trick? Pretty good value at 20€.

March 6, 2020 - Medium burgundy color. Low tannin. Smooth and round with a short spicy tail. Pleasant but simple. Good for the price
