June 12, 2022 - At most Schubert's vineyard would be a kilometre or two from Kusuda's for the 2016 Kusuda Pinot Noir I recently drank. Stylistically they couldn't be more different ... A bottle drunk over two evenings from Zalto Denk'Art Burgundy glass, during which it barely changed. New oak 45%. Compared with the Kusuda a much more earth bound bouquet. Liquorice, black spices, black and dark red cherries, smoke, forest floor, new leather and a touch of tar. Some dark chocolatey oak spice. Also a hint of lilacs. In the mouth, dense and a little chewy. Dark berried, brambly, earthy and savoury. Powerful with dark plum, bitter dark chocolate and graphite minerality. The meaty, dense fruit, for me, matches and balances the oak tannins. The tannins quite fine grained. The alcohol a shade high at 14.5% ABV but, again, balanced by the fruit. Bright acids. Decent length. Ideally drink from 2025 - 2035.

March 11, 2020 - By the glass. On the nose aromas of over ripened cherries with notes of sweet spices from the wood. Slightly tannic in the mouth with structure and a dense texture that at least is compensated by a refreshing acidity. It would benefit from a few years laying down. At least the bottle that we have here has cork and can sleep in the meantime.

March 7, 2020 - Pinot Noir Tasting: Vanilla bomb in the nose. Seems to have received an extreme oak treatment. This impression continues on the palate, a lot of new oak, totally overloaded, modern and not expressive at all. At this stage in my view hardly drinkable. This wine will need a lot of time to absorb all this new wood, if it ever does. Disappointment of the evening.
