Community Tasting Notes 9

November 6, 2023 - Agree with other recent notes. Wine is still youthful, tannic, acidic, and fairly full bodied. Tasted on second day with very little change in character.

October 10, 2023 - Barolo and Barbaresco 2014s at Terra Rossa (Terra Rossa, London N1): Darker in colour. Rhubarb, a touch of oak and pencil lead on the nose. Quite prominent acidity, vibrant red fruit initially masked the Serralunga tannins. Seemed much better in first 15 minutes and then became a bit muddled.

October 10, 2023 - 2014 Barolo and Barbaresco (Terra Rossa): The same score and the same impressions as when I tried this in 2021: noticeably dark in colour, enjoyable, on the plush side. The nose was pretty, with some fruit pastille, and the palate full-bodied, with gorgeous jewel-like fruit and some oak on the finish. Whilst delicious at the start, many of us agreed that the wine became increasingly hard-going, such that a glass of it was enough - and one of us even noted, quite rightly, that the wine was almost more like a Bordeaux than a Barolo.

August 5, 2021 - A pleasant enough wine, it suffers by comparison against the superior 2013, 2015 and 2016 vintages. By comparison it is lacking oomph. A nice enough wine on its own.

August 4, 2021 - Initially I was not sure if I liked this wine because whilst showing Serralunga power, and a touch of menthol on the nose, it flirted between being overdone and sexy. Later tasted in a Conterno Sensory this seemed nicely balanced with freshness. Not the most complex vintage but very drinkable now - at least from first rate glassware.
