February 14, 2024 - Rating this higher than my prior rating after an hour decant. This is fine to drink right out of the bottle at this stage. It's not getting better necessarily, I would say drink up. We drank it over the course of about 90-120 minutes and it was solid throughout but didn't necessarily get better with more air. Paired amazingly with Aussie waygu ribeye, parmesan garlic asparagus and pandan leaf jasmine rice though.

November 10, 2023 - One of the other reviews here says to drink this on the younger side, and I tend to agree. It's drinking well and has that restrained old world type of design combined with Mayacamas fruit, but while it expresses a variety of flavors in the glass including the blackberry, blueberry, leather and tobacco that you might expect, integration has happened and I don't think it has the remaining structure to get much better from here. Drink em up.

edit: this was decanted for an hour prior to drinking, and I don't know that it would need much more than that. Maybe two hours might be worth trying but don't think it needs overnight or anything extensive like that.

July 22, 2023 - We’ve always had a soft spot for this wine, as it gave us our first glimpse of what wine could be back in 2019. Fast forward, and despite coming to love Old World wines I still really appreciate the classical, more reserved style if this bottling. It brings the California fruit, but in a reserved manner that isn’t overwhelming or overly confected. This was our last 2016 and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

February 16, 2022 - Pepper, blackberry, vanilla, star anise/licorice, jammy blue fruits. Soft tannins and low acid. Really easy drinking and very approachable now. Open on the younger side.
