Community Tasting Notes 24

  • jjct Does not like this wine:

December 23, 2019 - Too ripe and disjointed for my taste.

I don't recall paying a lot of attention to this wine last night, but today the wine shows less ripe on the nose than the 2001 Ovello, surprising given the vintage. Nicely balanced on the palate, with good acidity and nice persistence. I liked the 2001 better yesterday, but today I'm not as convinced. Strong effort given the vintage, and another wine that is ready to go.

February 5, 2017 - Decanted for 90 minutes. Translucent strawberry-ruby color. Nose was initially dense and imploded but eventually gave off rather subtle tar and floral notes mixed with berry, soy, camphor, and earth. Sweet and nicely chewy on the palate right out of the gate, eventually exhibiting some oak elements, surprisingly. About 3 hours in, all of this resolved into a powerful mix of strawberry and plum fruit, earth, tar, and licorice. Ample acidity and substantial but somewhat smoothed tannin, leading to a moderately long finish of stony dark berry fruit with a hint of sweet grip. Very young at this point and capable of giving an interesting ride with a long decant.

August 15, 2016 - No formal notes, a good wine in any case.
