Community Tasting Notes 5

February 4, 2023 - Dinner with Steve & Barbara (Their House): PnP, chilled. This is the same wine served by our friends when we had dinner at their house last year, and it was as good this time as last.
Similar TN: a creamy, attractive palate with notes of green apple, citrus, and stone fruit with good acidity. Should continue to hold for a few years.

March 7, 2022 - PnP, chilled, but only to cellar temp. First time with this wine - served to us blind. Some notes reminiscent of a Chardonnay = green apple, very light oak, some stone fruit and minerality, but the acidity was lacking. We were surprised at the big reveal as this wine was clearly not (IMHO) a Chenin Blanc from the Loire -- NO, it was from South Africa! An interesting rendition that should hold for another couple of years.
Apparently, the Bosman Family has been making wine for over 210 years - through 8 generations, and this wine is from the third oldest Chenin vineyard in the country. We will look for this, and other Bosman wines.

February 23, 2021 - Tasted blind. Ripe green apple fruit reminiscent of Macon chardonnay with some tropical notes as well, medium bodied, little if any oak; shows well at room temperature. The chenin acidity and off-sweet gooseberry flavor balance out the fruit, but are less accented than would have expected from a Loire chenin. Instead of an French chardonnay from a warm vintage, turned out a ripe chenin from a hot continent.
