November 26, 2018 - Thought I'd try this Mavrud from the Struma valley, near Melnik. Villa Melnik make sound commercially-sensible wines. Two bottles tried of this wine. Dark red colour, with hints of mahogany. Scent berryish and bright. Some character of Mavrud in there, but quite light. Palate medium bodied, quite high acid, but the depth of fruit not quite enough really, leaving the wine too bright and loose-knit and the tannic/bitter undertow isn't balanced well. Still, a perfectly serviceable table wine when you need something not too dense. Not for ageing. I prefer my Mavruds far riper, denser and textured than this. 88+
