Community Tasting Notes 4

March 4, 2022 - 92+ Popped with some experienced friends at a blind tasting. People got to Nebbiolo and moderate to high quality Barolo was called - a completely accurate call. This will be 94+, if you have (even more) patience.

More extracted than expected, but still very balanced as alcohol only 13.5% (much less than Barolo - thank you Boca). Beautiful ethereal nose, dried roses, concentrated tart raspberry and plum skin. Moderate acid, high tannins. At the start of its window. Alto Piemonte strikes again.

October 26, 2021 - Dark garnet color. Attractive aromatics of dark cherry, earth, and roses. Very typical Nebbiolo character. The palate is medium light with impressively harmonious fruit and acidity, finishing with a frame of dusty tannins. The tannin texture is a bit more rustic than what you'd find in more refined areas, but this hardly diminishes the charm. There's not a lot of secondary development yet, and I would expect this to continue to blossom with some additional short- to medium-term cellaring.

October 17, 2021 - Didn’t close up like the first bottle. Besides that, consistent with previous note. Enjoyable and interesting, not every day can you find a 2013 in the store…

July 31, 2021 - Drank two glasses each of two nights. Very light ruby. Pretty classic Nebbiolo flavors, maybe a bit lighter than some other wines—interesting notes of orange maybe?

Most interesting thing was that on both nights upon opening it was very soft and approachable, with very little tannins…but as it sat, the wine actually seemed to tighten up a lot, and became more tannic. Very enjoyable still, but I wonder what will give in first, the fruit or the tannin?
