July 15, 2012 - Bought this bottle 2 years ago along with few other 1992 because I wanted to taste some mature wines. When I search online and found that the recommendation for cellaring is up to 10 years, I start to worry if the wine has way passed its prime.
Today, I took out the bottle to drink with a friend after I left it stand upright for few weeks. I has a very good fill for a 20 yrs old bottle, high into neck.
Dark ruby colour with brick red hue hue and it does not look like a 20 years old wines. Showing some blackcurrant, red fruits, eucalyptus and touch of vanilla on the nose. On palate, a touch of sweet fruits, soft and smooth, subtle fruits of black cherry, blackcurrant and hints of mints and spice. Medium finish with tannins almost resolved. It is quite an enjoyable wine, very drinkable and mellow down with alcohol not noticeable at background. It has aged nicely into some old Aussie wines that i am familiar, retain fruit palate, not much of secondary profile and not complex. But I appreciate at least it did not turn into some odd wine that will put me off.
