February 9, 2013 - Some bottle variation with these. One from a month ago seemed out of sorts and pretty much a mess. This one is actually quite pleasant. Yes, it's still a bit candied, a bit "fake", but that diminishes with some air. In that context, it actually has a nice enough balance for a big bodied daily drinker.

January 14, 2013 - Pop/pour. At least on this basis, this bottle is bit of a mess. Aromas and flavors seem out of sorts, and very "unintegrated". On the nose, dark fruit and hints of....banana?? On initial dose of port blows off somewhat. On the palate, big, forward and a sense of alcohol higher than the 14.5% on the label would suggest. Unfortunately, I've got a boat load of these remaining. I put them, mentally, in the same food pairing category as a fruit bomb zin......namely green chili burgers, nachos, etc. I'll check back in later to see if this settles down.

July 28, 2012 - Pop/pour. This opens up candied and slightly fake. Sweeter than I prefer. But looking at past notes, this candied character has often diminished with time in the glass. So, I'll set this aside and check in later. Seems largely resolved in terms of tannins. Probably best to drink up over the next couple of years. Still a good QPR, an a good style to serve to wine newbies. Update: with an hour or two of air, a bit of tarry oak joins in on the palate, serving to cut and balance the overt sweetness.

June 23, 2011 - Markedly different than the last bottle. No "candied" this time around. Instead, full-bodied lush texture enhanced by a masculine tar component in the background.

January 18, 2011 - Pop/pour - initial impression candied, fake over the top of oak. However, even with the briefest time in the glass, this settles down a bit and becomes nicely balanced, if not a quintessential cabernet. Candied note becomes significantly diminished, and the wine presents on the palate with some power. Hard to rate this one. If as a well-behaved Cab, somewhere in the 84-86 point range. As a pleasant, hedonistic drink, an easy one (given low price) to pull during the week, much higher than that, assuming a person is in the mood for what this has to offer. Day 2 - not much change.
