  January 3, 2019 - This is a wonderful and well-aged cabernet crafted by Gary Farrell from grapes grown on a hillside in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. 10% cabernet franc from the Dry Creek Valley adds complexity and roundness. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels from forests in central France.
  
  The particular bottle has been well-cellared from an early purchase and appears intact. Upon removing the capsule, the cork was wet with wine of a rather vinegar-ish note. Drawing the cork was challenging as it began to slip down in the neck. An angular approach of the screw caught just enough cork to draw it out cleanly. A tricky close call.
  
  The off notes quickly dissipated and the bottle decanted cleanly with moderate residue left clinging to the sides. It opened up beautifully over the nest two hours and paired brilliantly with home-made sirloin ravioli (followed later with home sourced and home made Meyer lemon ice - triple - cream!).
  
  Still dark and plummy coloured with an increasingly delightful nose or black currants, leather, and cedary tobacco box elements shot with a bit of iron and gun-powder. Lots of tannins left and though nicely balanced with a metallic under frame holding up a wide range of dark fruits and woodsy notes ... not yet wholly resolved yet this wine has distinctive balance with a long blackcurrant finish that is notably impressive for residual strength gloved in considerable elegance.
