Community Tasting Notes 5

October 2, 2022 - In a class by itself. Drinking incredibly well. Hits every note we think of with a good wine and then an extra few notes just to make your senses tingle with joy a bit further.

April 5, 2022 - Dang. This wine is firing on all cylinders. This one did take about 20 minutes to get going, but when it did it took just about all the willpower everyone had to make it last through dinner. We weren't successful, but we tried. This wine is the first growth of Mt. Veeder, hands down. And, at the price paid, this wine eclipses all of the cult wines that fetch 3 times the price of this wine. Nose of roasted blackberry and blueberry jam. Pie crust, roasted pecan, figs, allspice, black cherry pie, and black licorice. The entry of this wine is dark, deep, ripe and ready mountain fruit. I am not getting a whole bunch of the the flinty side of cab that is sometimes associated with Veeder wines, but a hint of graphite is definitely there. This is definitely your toasted tannic fruit forward wine. Blackberry compote, blueberry pie with streusel crust, plums, campfire roasted pecans and walnuts, black licorice, dates, black cherry preserves on the front and to the middle, with a black pepper fine grain cedar tannin finish. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making the decision to drink this wine now, but if you wanted to age this for another 5-10 years it wouldn't be the worst idea you've ever had. This wine is doing really well right now, and will continue to impress and develop and grow for quite a while.

November 13, 2021 - Progeny SSR: what I would consider the first growth of Mt Veeder! This wine is studly, masculine, deep, dark, full-bodied. And although this wine will tap you on the shoulder and tell you that it will be on cruise control in your cellar for 20 years or longer, it's also ready to go now. Cork pop revealed a black stained cork with lots of sediment. The pour into the glass is the darkest violet I have seen in a while. Nose didn't need to get any less than 6 inches from the glass and the nose was hitting you across the face. Palate is robust, round, full bodied with a ton of blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon, baking spice, lesser notes of baked figs and plums, tobacco, with a limestone sediment that infiltrates the middle and gives this wine character. Finishes with a lot of black pepper, toasted tannins that are definitely present but did not seem to be detracting from the finish of this wine in any way. Finishes with baked plums, blackberries, black pepper and spices. This one actually went very well with a Greek salad with grilled salmon. But I would say that even though this one is rather full-bodied and quite obtuse, I really think it would play very nicely with a variety of foods. Just a beautiful Cabernet through and through. I have a few more of these luckily, and even though I would like to let these sit for another 10 to 15 years if not longer, I know my willpower is going to get the best of me! And I am perfectly okay with that knowing the way that they drink now!!

December 30, 2020 - Earthy aromas with notes of blackberry and plum. Grippy tannins with bold black cherry, crushed rocks and dark chocolate flavors. Definitely needs at least 2 hours in a decanter. Drank with gnocchi alla bolognese, which was a match made in heaven! Buonissimo!

November 18, 2020 - Drank for a birthday decanted over 3 hours. Very good wine, lay it down young with great potential 95-96
