May 8, 2024 - "Rousseau is for drinking" (La Trompette): My wine. Much earthier than the LSJ for the first 10-15 minutes, as well as tighter and less powerful. It was fairly oaky on the nose at that stage, too. The wine then really revved up, the nose revealing beautiful bright fruit and some flowers and at the same time the slightly tough, bitter edge to the palate melted away to reveal a much sexier wine, with gorgeous red fruit and lovely acidity. My #4 of the lunch.

October 27, 2023 - The open was a lot of reduction but this didn’t need long to show its character. Again, and unsurprisingly too, the Rousseau DNA is plastered all over the bottle. Crunchy, fresh roses, ripe strawberries, blood orange and I can really feel the spiciness on the palate. It’s got a good balance between being fine boned and having enough weight to pull through to the finish which by the way was really mineral and bitter. This style actually worked quite well here and accurately reflects the plot and the vintage.

November 18, 2022 - Drunk alongside the 18 and 19. By far the most evolved wine in the line up showing it’s structure already.

June 2, 2022 - A private dinner (Hotel Olivier Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet, France): Toute en délicatesse. So pretty but not superficial. Spices and peonies, ripe cherries and berries, fragrant and transparent, pure and precise, perfect weight, silky and seamless, hint of cream, ultra-fine tannins, unrushed, dreamy but serious, excellent resonance and length. Marvellously refined Gevrey. Drink now - 2037+.

April 19, 2022 - A very nice Gevrey 1er cru from what is arguably the finest producer there. Still young but approachable after 3/4 hours in the decanter. Elegant, silky texture, nice freshness and tension, firm tanins but quite round though, moderate length. Juicy and sapid. Clearly not worth the market value, but a decent value if one can get it 1st hand (which I luckily did).
