June 23, 2022 - No score - First time drinking a white sweet of any kind much less a sauternes. Once or twice I had Port as part of a dinner wine pairing menu, so I have no real context to score.

I liked this though, even though it was quite good on its own, I felt I wouldn't be able to drink too much without food but we had always planned to pair it with a big, luxuriously frosted bundt cake and with the cake the wine performed beautifully. Will need to get more familiar with this style.

March 26, 2021 - This stood up really well with the rich and sweet dessert. It had the stuffing and structure to cut through and work in alternating sips and dessert bites which can sometimes be challenging for the more delicate dessert wines like eiswein etc. A clean, fruity/floral nose and classical palate, lacking ultimate intensity or complexity but it is a 2004 after all, not a 2001 or 2003. It is an underappreciated Coutet, I think it is mid development and one could hold for a further decade in desired.

February 20, 2021 - Other notes are spot on: orange peel, honey, and vanilla. Perhaps this isn’t going to blow anyone away, but it’s a great value given the unheralded vintage. Coutet in a bad year is still better than many others in overhyped ones.

October 10, 2019 - Drank with fig leaf ice cream at The Quality Chop House. Not the best pairing but some good notes of apricot and tangerine with a medium finish.

March 18, 2019 - Beautiful copper color that already tends to amber. A very nice syrup in mutation. With the eye we see immediately that the material is damn rich and sweet. The nose is of a beautiful complexity: a combination of stewed fruits and some subtle notes of aging (vanilla? caramel?). On the palate no surprise: the wine completely covers the mouth. It's full, unctuous and beautifully bold. Apricots and vanilla appear well at the tasting. Coutet 2004 combines a great aromatic richness and a beautiful control of the breeding. The cute little tension in the final allows the taste buds not to be disgusted. The wine is very good. It pairs perfectly with the dish since it balances the salt of the grilled chicken. Great choice!
