Community Tasting Notes 110

February 28, 2024 - In my cellar since release. Decanted 2 hours before tasting. 13.5% ABV. Modern style Brunello, dark garnet color. Ripe but not as ripe as I expected. Heavily oaked but integrating. Rich luxurious texture. Dark fruit, International in style. Very tasty but could just as well be a cab blend if tasted blind. Nice with braised lamb shanks and mushroom risotto.

P.s. The next evening, after remaining in the decanter overnight, this wine remains quite attractive, perhaps even more so. It has lightened a touch and become a little more floral still with good fruit, though more one the red berry end of the spectrum. This was a pleasant surprise. 94–>95

February 1, 2024 - Solid cork. Into neck fill. Color has no sign of age. It took 2 hours in a decanter to come around. Consumed over following 3 hours and did not materially change after first opening. Originally strained for sediment but only fine grains, perhaps a half teaspoon worth. Not quite as opulent of as out prior bottle, but still a phenomenal wine. Plenty of very ripe black/dried cherries, some red cherry notes and raspberry, touches of tobacco, dried herbs, mushrooms, and spice. Good food acidity but very smooth. No rush on this one.

April 27, 2023 - This is my first bottle out of a case I bought long ago. It was everything I expected it to be. One of the nicest bottles of wine I have ever had.

February 19, 2023 - Perfect aged Brunello. The star of the night.

(Valdicava Riserva Madonna BRUNELLO) Piano Dear Friends, Two interesting magnums (that did not wine Wine of the Year) to round out the week - both of these are directly from the source with perfect provenance. The Valdicava is exceedingly rare in this format and the Las Cases should continue to increase in value for decades... Have a good weekend everyone - Both are EXTREMELY LIMITED at this price: 2001 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva "Madonna del Piano" 1.5lt 2005 Leoville Las Cases 1.5lt (St. Julien) Both arrive at some point in late 2008/early 2009 (they are on the water now) - they will be available for local pick up soon thereafter and ship during the first available shipping window (weather permitting). (VALDICAVA Brunello Riserva PIANO) Brunello Dear Friends, This is a unique item that should be highly desirable as the years tick away. If you own a cellar with the most admired large format bottles, this is one that will certainly impress. Only 18 of these were produced and 6 of them were culled from the very best lot of this 100pt Riserva and hand-signed by Valdicava as the epitome of the vintage (to distinguish them from the other twelve 3.0s). The parcel we have contains only those from the 6 "signed" bottles . 100+pts? If you demand the very rarest and the very best bottles that only a few other cellars in the world will possess, here you go: This set of 3.0 bottles is set to arrive directly from the cellars at Valdicava with perfect provenance - they have not been sitting on a store shelf or other. There are two other 3.0s available in the US, both priced at the $1500 level but make sure they are one of the 6 signed bottles before you purchase them (one is at Primovino in Colorado and the other is at The Wine Room in Irvine): 2001 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva "Madonna del Piano" (signed) 3.0lt Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy6811
