September 12, 2012 - Wine purchased at Bi-Rite about a year or two ago. Has rested in the cellar since. Ullage is good. Cork was intact, but took lots of elbow grease to extract it. Color was nice - not dark or light. Meniscus seems very reasonable in color. If color is any indication, this wine in good shape for maybe 5 years. Initial impressions on the nose include elements of nutmeg, licorice, citrus, tar, and dust. Flavors include all of the above, especially black licorice - at least at the beginning. Nice acids on the middle palate too; nothing acerbic. No rough edges here. Noted some violet tones at 30 minutes and at 45 minutes, sandalwood and leather. I like this wine and give it a 91 based on the evolving flavors in the nose and on the palate.
