June 28, 2021 - Another fine offering of elegance and finesse from Morgen Long. I've had this one in the cellar for a couple years and it's coming along nicely. It pours with a very intriguing slight peach color. I can't remember if it was like this upon release or if this is a development from the cellar. In any case it's still very fresh and lively. I would not hesitate to continue aging this wine for a decade or more. (I have a few more and I may do just that)
As is typical for the label, the nose is very citrus driven. But it does have little extra nuances and complexities dancing around in there. I get a little almond paste, persimmon, and powdered sugar.
A lot of people, when they encounter a new world Chardonnay with this much acid and austerity, will describe it as being similar to Chablis. But I'm not getting that here. This wine has a really unique build. It actually reminds me a lot of a Coteaux Champenois. I think I kind of disagree with a previous reviewer who labeled this a sipping wine and not a pairing wine. I think the acid on this is a perfect accompaniment for a certain selection of foods. Amusingly enough, I just had it with curly fries and it was absolutely fantastic. I know, very haute cuisine. But the take away from that is it will cut through something fried, greasy or rich.
My parting thought on this wine is that it really held up even as it came to room temperature, which is always the sign of a wine of true purity. This is a special wine worthy of your closest examination.1 person found this helpful Comments (1) -

August 9, 2020 - higher toned, it more austere and citrus driven relative to the black label.

November 6, 2019 - This wine grew on me – it needs aeration and a bit of warming to fully appreciate. Its qualities are subtle, making it a sipping, not a pairing wine. Light nose shows citrus with a hint of cranberry, light oak, and definite minerality. There’s an interesting transient sweetness with the first touch on the tongue before becoming nicely dry and acid. The cranberry becomes much more noticeable, as does smoke, spice, and definite salinity. Finish is light but pleasant. I would recommend for those who like light, mineral driven Chardonnays.
