February 1, 2022 - I have always enjoyed wine from the Vouvray appellation where they make great Chenin Blanc, the majority of which is sparkling. This one happens to have a bit of bottle age and is a stunning deep gold color. 12.5% ABV shows off barely a leg in the glass but the color is exquisite. The nose has pronounced aromas of pineapple, pear, green apple, acacia and quince. I'm also getting a touch of honeysuckle. The palate is off-dry and full bodied. Wow, the fruit just coats my mouth. The acidity is medium (+) and the flavors are persistent- really ripe pineapple, green apple, fresh grated ginger, quince and floral notes of acacia and honeysuckle. The back end is stunning- ripe fruit, great acidity and tremendous balance that goes on for a while. This is a blockbuster of a white wine that will pair well with hearty fowl, Asian dishes, cheese boards and full throttle fish like Mackerel. 93 points from me make this $24 wine a no-brainer 5 point wine that will drink nicely till 2026.

    A: Medium lemon
N: medium nose of peach, nectarine, apples, lemon rind, honeysuckle, wet rock, quince
P: Medium dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium (+) intensity and medium (+) finish
C: Very good. No sign of tertiaries in 5 years so I don't think this thing will improve wildly with age.

Winemaker Blurb: The Tendre is made from 100% Chenin Blanc from flint soils in Reugny rather than the more typical tuffeau soils one finds further to the south and west in Vouvray. Vineyards up to 125m altitude and vines 15-60 years old. Harvest by hand and rigorously sorted at the cellar, the grapes are pressed and ferment spontaneously in tank. With a small amount of residual sugar, just too much to be called sec and far too little to be classified as a demi-sec, the Tendre is a versatile wine at the table as you would no doubt experience should you visit the Viking.

March 31, 2021 - A little minerality and citrus on the nose but honeyed on the palate.

September 23, 2020 - Tasted blind. Deep yellow with a gold/copper hue. Med intensity aromas of yellow flowers, bruised apple, ripe lemon, earth and some funk, possibly from botrytis or extended lees aging. No oak. Off-dry, with high acidity, med. alcohol. No phenolic bitterness on the finish. Drinking well now, it is not likely to improve with further aging. A classic, testable Vouvray sec.

Not enough slate and minerality and alcohol - and too sweet - to be a Savennieres. Pinot Gris from Alsace would have lower acidity. Lacks the petrol notes that characterize Riesling.
