Community Tasting Notes 6

  • carlwhat Does not like this wine:

January 14, 2022 - i found this bottle to be really out of sorts. tannins are softening similar to other 05s i have had, and the wine had a good acidity streak to it. but the fruit was fading and i am just not sure that this wine will ever age into a more balanced place. i am now tempted to open a CdE soon for a bit of a comparison...

December 18, 2021 - Still a good deep colour, with just a hint of browning at the edges. Classic and complex on the nose, still quite youthful, but there's plenty going on. Rich on the palate, with a somewhat austere but very long finish. It goes beautifully with food. We served it with a wild duck breast stuffed with wild boar and flambéed in Cointreau, and it stood up to that superbly.

This is said to be from the younger vines of Clos des Epeneaux, but 'younger' is relative. This is a big, muscular, concentrated wine of excellent quality.

    Probably at its peak.

Bought on release and stored in our cellar since then.

December 29, 2019 - Took first sips cold. Fruity, medium bodied, delicious. More to follow

July 17, 2010 - Blind Pinot tasting (Bellevue, WA): (Group's #1 (my #2)) – 3 first place votes, 3 second place votes, 1 third place vote – The nose had aromas of herbs, smoke, and loads of red fruit. The palate had dark red fruits and mint/eucalyptus flavors with mineral and herbal notes. This wine had nice acidity, and was medium to full bodied with a medium-long finish. I did not this this was a Burgundy at all, it had such an upfront and expressive style, that I thought it was a California Pinot.

May 29, 2009 - Great wine. We drank it blind with a 2006 Flowers Camp Meeting Ridge Pinot, and the two were confused for each other. The Pomard had such sweetness and ripeness that passed for the California. Not the most elegant and restrained, but it's a Pomard, and 2005 was a ripe year.
