Community Tasting Notes 5

January 16, 2024 - Clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. Aromas of hawthorn, violets and vanilla oak spices. Then notes of cranberry. Medium-bodied, balanced with an enticing medium-high level of acidity and medium level of supple tannin. The medium-long floral finish was filled with flavours of bramble, ripe dark cherry, licorice, amazing hints of spices and and a fashinating saline minerality. May only evolve further, to get a perfect balance. Great stuff, this vintage better than 2015, in my opionion, with much still to tell. Vibrant and emotional

February 24, 2023 - Light rubin in the baloon, pleasant perfume of ripe dark cherry, violet, earth and wet stone. After a lot of aeration, notes of cranberry, dark cherry emerge, and the violet aroma intensified with hint of spices. Grapes come from two different crus, one for elegance and the other for structure. Will improve over the next three/five years

January 30, 2021 - 2017 Domaine Theulot Juillot Mercurey Premier Cru La Cailloute was ripe and perfumed. The Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. With two hours of in-bottle aeration, there were pleasant perfume of ripe dark cherry, strawberry, violet, earth and a whiff of baking spices.

The mouthfeel was dry and relatively light-bodied, with medium-high level of balanced acidity and medium level of finely grained tannin. Flavours of bramble, sweet spices, violet and wet stone minerals persisted in a rather long finish.

June 18, 2020 - 2017 Domaine Theulot Juillot Mercurey 1er Cru La Cailloute Monopole was ripe, perfumed and evolving. The Mercurey Pinot Noir was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. Freshly uncorked, there were aromas of hawthorn, violets and vanilla oak spices. With three hours of in-bottle aeration, notes of cranberry, dark cherry, blossom emerged, and the violet aroma intensified considerably. On the palate, it was medium-bodied, balanced with medium-high level of acidity and medium level of supple tannin. The medium-long floral finish was filled with flavours of bramble, ripe dark cherry, liqourice spices and saline minerality.

La Cailloute has an south-east-facing aspect, with marl subsoil covered by shallow limestone pebbles. The grapes were fully destemmed and cold soaked for five to six days, followed by fifteen days of vatting with regular cap punching and pumping over. The wine was matured in 25% new oak barrels for 12 to 15 months.

April 26, 2020 - Good but still very young. Excellent nose but I think it will develop more with age. Was WAY better after an hour and a half decant. Will hold on to the rest until they're ripe!
