Community Tasting Notes 6

September 8, 2011 - I apologize for posting such a pathetic note but it has been a few days since this was consumed and I have nothing written down. However I had to express my opinion on how wonderful I thought this wine was. This was beautiful, especially for the price but had I paid double I still would be very happy. Great nose, great presence on the palate, and a nice finish. Excellent, will search for more.

December 3, 2010 - What a wonderful Rioja for the price. Great aromas of dried cherries, oak, raspberries, spice, leather and dill. Still very much alive on the palate with firm acidity, smooth mouthfeel and a surprising amount of tannin considering the age. Very well balanced on the palate also, which lead into a long, dry, fruity finish. I would drink this now, but also over the next couple of years if stored properly. This shows the strength of a strong 2001 vintage in the Rioja.

May 8, 2009 - Ruby color with some lightening at the rim. Nose of briary fruits, some leather, some earth. Similar on the palate with blackberries and cherries. Mature tannins. Very nice wine and a relative bargain for restaurant drinking. Tasted at the Black Trumpet Bistro in Portsmouth, NH.

February 3, 2009 - Very decent by itself. With Epoisses cheese (Cow, France) simply outstanding. Caramel, hazelnut, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, oak, tobacco, spices, all combined in a perfect harmony. Fireworks in your mouth. Incredible.

June 3, 2007 - Excellent Crianza. Classic Rioja smoothness and cherry notes with well integrated oak. Nice finish. Benefited greatly from decanting.
