Community Tasting Notes 4

July 11, 2022 - Italian Tasting Group (Bella Puglia, Five Dock): Served blind.
Initially a little cherry then plenty of black hued fruit, sweet spice, peppery underpin with earthy notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, a little sweetness to the fruit, chalky tannins, slight alcohol warmth, balanced. Yum.
I went with Conero 2015 so right grape but (hideously) wrong vintage - this was showing considerably fresher than it's actual age.

January 29, 2021 - Nose on crushed strawberries, very intense at the beginning, which will become more diffuse afterwards before becoming completely silent on the nose

The attack is minty, I would say almost lemon, to then unwrap red fruit in quantity. It is dense and silky, still with a predominance of strawberry, to which will be added a spicy side that will gain fullness with aeration, but only in the mouth. Because, on the nose, the wine will completely die out over the tasting.
On the palate, the wine remains complex, and it reveals itself in layers, all thanks to a perfectly worked balance. He turns out to be perfectly mature and plays his score brilliantly, everything is there, freshness, fruit, velvet, complexity. The finish hits the palate with fine, noble tannins and pleasant length. At the end, it will take a floral turn. Very well, too bad the nose does not match the mouth.

March 25, 2020 - Still very fresh. Quite sweet with lots of red berries as well as some tobacco and graphite. Age hasn't had much of an influence, could've lasted for another 10 years. Still not as complex as I'd hoped.

February 1, 2007 - Pure satisfaction and purity in this deep ruby purple stuff. Gorgeous and very complex aromas of: blackberry, plums, chocolate, tobacco, coconut and indian spices. Full bodied, great power and finesse as well, creamy texture, so mouthcoating and balanced. An incredible increase of sweet flavors, deep and dreamy, perfectly balanced. Very long finish, almost 30 seconds. Decanted for 3 hours, this Villa Gemma is one of the best Montepulciano I've ever tried.
