Community Tasting Notes 11

August 13, 2023 - A rather unpleasant taste of stewed prunes and clearly on the decline.

April 28, 2016 - This was like a science project, sort of. When opening an older wine like this one, I always worry about the cork falling apart. Well, this one was fine. Very short cork, actually. Sort of odd. Then came the sediment, and this is where the science thing comes in. Obviously this wine spent a lot of time upside-down, because the sediment had settled, hardened, in a mass of goo, at the top. It took a moment for the wine to begin pouring because of this barrier. Weird. Which of course meant that a big chunk fell into the decanter! But I like sediment, or at least it doesn't offend me.

On to the wines tastes and smells: great amounts of blue fruit and perfume, as one might expect from a mostly grenache blend, from old vines. Delicious, palette coating, smooth fruit. Some spice, some brown sugar as it opened up. Very full bodied still, with a lot to say. Might be getting a little thin as it sits and gets air, so you may NOT want to decant this. But watch that first clump of sediment. Ha!

April 10, 2015 - Mini Verticals - Tasted Blind: Spice, chocolate, wood, cherry and redcurrant. Rich with an alcohol lift that is integrated decently. Nice length to it.

January 8, 2015 - Really a very consistent excellent wine!

April 19, 2014 - Really opening up and getting gorgeous! Classic example to me that people don't hold these long enough or understand where they are going!
