Community Tasting Notes 5

December 18, 2021 - Drank with HMC and Markpt1. Mark's note was perfect. It was my first time with Vice Versa and wanted to see if the winemaker could make the difference with a less than stellar year. The verdict is that the year is super important. Vice Versa did a good job with what they had, but we all agreed that the wine would not take on weight with age. We had some wine left over for the next day and will report back if there is a change. Drink up and enjoy now. Give it a 3 hour decant.

December 17, 2021 - Not sure where these scores are coming from, this is a 91-92.....it's a '17 after all. It's red fruited, smooth and integrated, but I doubt it or any other '17 gets any better from here on out. This is monolithic fruit but with a very nice taste profile from the Stag's Leap AVA. Compared favorably with the '13 Roy for a while but eventually the Roy overtook it. Again, wine is only as good as the fruit from that vintage.

November 24, 2019 - Vice Versa tasting, Chicago (RPM Steak): Beautiful complexity. A touch of mineral. Smooth tannin. Leans to dark fruit. Aromatics on point. Very very nice wine.

May 1, 2019 - Barrel Sample @ VV; lots of tannin, deep red fruit, dark cherry, really excellent - this was the unanimous favorite pour. Really excited what happens when they decide to bottle the GIII (2018). Top-tier pricing however, will definitely taste against the Myriad Steltzner, which is substantially more affordable.

April 15, 2019 - I love VV wines period. I am concerned about the 2017 Cabernets in Napa and this was my first opportunity to taste. I tried two side by side and came away with the same impression: (1) I would trust VV on their wines, they would not put out smoke impacted wines (discussion and could not detect based on what I sampled) (2) the 2017 vintage was much better than 2011 (yucky for the most part) but one should be selective when buying.

I can’t give a final verdict as they are stil in barrel however this vintage of VV seems to come off more moderate/classic than I prefer/expect out of VV. Will be interesting to re-taste once time in bottle allows them to better integrate. Not rated.
