April 11, 2023 - Concentrated nose, petrol, now and later candy, peach purée, curry spice, very complex and expressive. Palate is spicy, herbal, exotic, ripe summer peach, slight violet, medium finish but huge concentration.

March 24, 2019 - Drank it side by side with VV Scharzhofberger P same vintage. The P was fresher and more precise in the finish. For me both a touch too sweet abd broad. Would not wait much longer. 89-90

May 5, 2018 - “Ten Years After” 2008 Dry Riesling Tasting (mostly Germany) (Private Location): For me by far the best out of the Mosel flight, which was in my very own opinion miles away from the other wines in this tasting. If we come to the more recent vintages the gap between Mosel dry and the other big German regions for dry Riesling is closer but not here.
The Altenberg has a charming nose with white fruit, wet stone and a bit of citrus peel. On the palate the acidity can’t manage to cut through the residual sugar and so the wine appears a bit flabby. Creamy mouth feel but short in the finish. Maybe this wine will develop more in some years but I’m not sure.1 person found this helpful Comment -

May 5, 2018 - 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2008 (@home): Glass: Zalto Universal
Bottle double decanted about 8h before, tasted blind in the evening and another glass on the next day.
Clear, pale lemon golden color. Clean, medium intense and quite youthful nose with typical Saar notes: Citrus fruit, racy/steely acidity, crushed stones. Lean, precise and beautiful.
Problem with this wine in this tasting: It is not legally dry. The bit more residual sugar makes it a bit broader and washed out in comparison with the wines from other regions. Ripe fruit, maybe some Botrytis, fine slate notes. Fine, but not as precise as the other wines. Needs air and time. Potential for 5+ years. 89-90 -

October 4, 2017 - still pale, restraint scent. On the palate medium bodied, restraint fruit, pretty low acid, terroir driven with a Kind of sweetness in a medium Long finish.
A strange style for me. Like a Mosel-Riesling made in austrian manner.
