Community Tasting Notes 7

January 3, 2024 - Great complexity, after an hour the nose showed earth mounted with fresh fruit of which I can't quite pin down, but teasing out apricot, cherry, raspberry, rhubarb, plum mixed with tars, band-aid, and some herbal leaves.

Palate is very round, light body, edges of grip that can't hold onto my tongue but wash over watery like. It's juicy and tastes real. At 12% I love it.
And there's smoke that shows up in the finish, almost like a subtle Isla style.

    70% Nebbiolo, 15% Croatina, 15% Vespolina.

    Poured only 1 glass.
Will slow-ox the bottle for tomorrow.

November 9, 2023 - Nebbiolo 70%, Croatina 15% and Vespolina 15%. Destemmed, fermentation without temperature control, aged 6 months in wood (2nd and 3rd use barriques). The wine is then blended and aged for an additional few months in concrete tanks.

Opened 2 hours before dinner and enjoyed it slightly cooled (14-16°C). Red berries, prune, earthy notes and moss, high acidity and clean, light to medium bodied, medium to long finish.

Classic northern Piedmont Nebbiolo that matches good to some rustic dishes or a classic risotto. Quite similar as the bottle two years ago and in a nice spot now. Can age some more years but will probably not improve anymore.

June 20, 2021 - 18 months after the last bottle and a step up. PnP and enjoyed it slightly cooled (14-16°C) over 4 hours. Red berries, earthy notes and moss, fresh and clean, light but with a good persistence, medium to long finish. Ideal food wine and easy to combine (this time with risotto and lamb chops), drink now or within the next 4 to 6 years, a steal.

June 15, 2021 - Vibrant and fresh, with cherry fruit that has a refreshing tart edge. There are notes of mint, aniseed and soil too and it has nice balance and plenty of minerality. It has a gentle flex of muscle to the back-end and is bright and clean.

December 26, 2019 - Beautiful, beautiful wine from a hitherto unknown part of the Alto Piemonte. A blend of nebbiolo (70%), croatina (15%) and vespolina (15%). Pale garnet in color, the nose is full of super appealing ripe strawberry, followed by balsam, saddle leather and mineral notes. The strawberry almost leaps from the glass, it's really appealing.

In the mouth it works through a progression from the fresh, ripe fruit into savory and then almost bitter notes, as though each part of the blend wanted to solo before joining the chorus. The finish itself is quite dry and while the tannins don't bite, they persist in a bitter, woody but not unpleasant acid wash. Body at 12% ABV is light and coiled.

With all this said, the mid-palate through finish bitterness make this a better option with food, where it could match almost anything from chicken to pork and certainly salumi. My experience with Alto Piemonte wines has taught me to never underestimate the longevity of these higher altitude acid freaks.
