July 13, 2023 - Well structured Chianti - dark Cherry with hints of Spice & Pepper. Great balance with slightly dry chewy Tannins. Text book Chianti finish with Leathery Cedar notes and more lush fruit. Addition of Cab Sauv and Merlot makes this a very approachable Chianti - consistently a favourite that matches well with Bolognese sauce.

October 12, 2022 - Castellina's 2016 Riserva Squarcialupi is an approximate blend of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This particular bottle was decanted through a Vinturi aerator and allowed three hours in carafe prior to serially sampling over the ensuing two hours. Medium-to-deep ruby in color, it serves up a package of Montmorency cherries, cranberries, dried earth, cinnamon and tobacco. Medium-bodied, vibrantly acidic, softly oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (14%), it stays solid on the mid-palate and concludes with a medium length finish that carries a bit of tannic grip. This well-crafted wine screams for a tomato-based pasta dish or a platter of hard cheeses. Drink now-2026.

June 11, 2022 - This wine was a challenge. When I first opened it, I almost wrote it off. I decanted and left while I cooked dinner and when I returned it had completely changed character. Initially flat, closed with a burnt asphalt and tar finish. After an hourin the decanter, open, dried fruit, sour cherry. Medium bodied and smooth. Nose matched the palette. Short but pleasant finish. A well balanced wine. In June of 2022, it showed slight signs of age, subtle bricking and balanced. It turned out to be a very drinkable wine that I would buy again, but armed with the knowledge that you have to coax it out.

October 17, 2020 - This wine took a while to unveil itself. Disjointed and sharp vinegar at first. A 60 - 90min decant revealed earthy elements of clay pot, soil, violet and cherries.
