Community Tasting Notes 9

  • Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 93 points

April 23, 2023 - Similar notes to last time. Polished dark fruit, perhaps darker than your usual right bank. Nice tension on the finish with air. Still young. 93+

April 6, 2023 - Bottle 3/6. Quick decant with steak tortillas for my daughter’s birthday. This was most open in the first two glasses. Fleshy, plummy, coffee, mocha, chocolate and candied orange peel. 93-94

March 24, 2023 - 2018 Chateau Clos St Martin. Bottle 3/6 opened for Friday Italian dinner. Again a high-toned slightly candied dark and red fruit (plum and dark berries). Some emerging cassis, mocha and cinnamon. The nose was more open at the first pour but this was opulent and flashy and reminds me more of a Pomerol (LaFleur Petrus comes to mind). 94+

February 19, 2023 - Bottle 2/6. Straight after holiday, it’s time to fry up barbary duck to pair with 2018 Chateau Clos St Martin. This baby Cheval Blanc was decanted for too long but still delivered bramble fruit, fennel and coffee if a bit muted. Score withheld due to my decanting error.

  • Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 95 points

February 10, 2023 - 2018 Chateau Clos St Martin. Bottle 1/6 paired with homemade venison ragu. I was excited to try this St Emilion microproducer that is part of the same family as Dominus and Lafleur Petrus. Needed at least an hour of air then delivered very silky red plum and blueberry fruit, mild chocolate, light coffee, bramble fruit, coffee grain and aniseed. 10-15 second finish. Ethereal. If I’m nitpicking the finish could be longer but this is so complex and opulent at only 5 years age scoring 95/100. Tastes like a baby Cheval Blanc.
