January 3, 2024 - Loved this wine. Opened, but did not decant 1 hour before dinner. On nose, red licorice, pine resin, fig preserves and plum. Full body, full tannins, high acidity and very long finish. On palate, licorice, rich black cherry and sweet cherry notes. Would buy again. 94+/-

last tasted in 10/21 and relatively similar notes.

    October 24, 2021 - Atlanta no-name Wine Tasting Group - Italy again.: Wine #2 - Italian Tasting (ex. Barolo/Brunello)

Dark red/black color. Great nose. Savory earth/tobacco, tar and dark cherry. Palate similar to nose. High acidity, high tannins and very long finish. Would have shown better if open longer. Pros guessed Older Veneto. Really enjoyed this and will buy some. In top 3 for me. 93-94 range.

March 12, 2021 - A single-vineyard Sagrantino from an organically farmed vineyard planted in 2003 at 400 meters a.s.l. Macerated with the skins for 3-4 weeks. Aged for at least 30 months in large oak casks, after which the wine is left to marry in lined cement vats for a few months. Bottled unfiltered. 15% alcohol.

Slightly translucent, blackish cherry-red color with a subtly evolved red plum hue. Rich, opulent and quite sweetish nose with concentrated aromas of very ripe black cherry, some wizened dark fruits, light notes of pipe tobacco, a little bit of sweet balsamic VA, evolved hints of dried dates and raisins and a touch of damp humus. The very ripe, voluptuous overall impression lends a somewhat Priorat feel to the wine - naturally with an Italian twist. The wine is very full-bodied, noticeably ripe and rather concentrated on the palate with juicy, sweetish flavors of juicy black cherries, some wizened plummy tones, a little bit of savory wood spice, light sweet notes of balsamic VA, a hint of tobacco and a touch of leather. The tannins feel ample and quite grippy, but never particularly assertive or aggressive; they lend a good sense of density to the mouthfeel and make the wine feel quite chewy, yet they never dominate - although they do add a slightly bitter streak to the otherwise rather fruity and ripe-sweet taste. The acidity feels moderately high, although a wine this big could really use a bit higher acidity, so the structure relies mainly on the firm tannins. The high alcohol makes the mouthfeel somewhat warm. The finish is juicy, quite grippy and rather warm with weighty, sweet-toned flavors of cherry marmalade and wizened dark plums, some tobacco, a little bit of bitterness and rusty iron from the tannins, light earthy tones, a hint of blueberry jam and a touch of savory wood, followed by a subtle nuance of dank, weedy character towards the end of the aftertaste.

I must say this wine is very noticeably ripe, based on its super-concentrated and rather sweet-toned fruit and quite noticeable alcohol, but at the same time it is surprisingly balanced and enjoyable for its massive size. Nevertheless, there's no escaping that the overall feel is quite sweet, somewhat pruney and, even for a wine this big, that 15% of alcohol is quite much - I can imagine the wine could've performed easily at least as well, if not even better, if the grapes were harvested a bit earlier. I'd say that this might not be as cellarworthy as I originally imagined, based on the rich, somewhat evolved and slightly pruney overall character; I'd say the wine is drinking pretty well right now and the remaining bottles should be drunk within the next 10 years or so. Solid value at 26€.

August 7, 2020 - Amazing display of Sagratino. Full bodied, dark fruit, balanced, complex and layered. Perfect tannins up front with a hint of oak, rounded into earthy tones with spice, leather and tar. Strong finish and leaves your mouth wanting more. Perfect age, just ordered two more.
