September 15, 2012 - One of many at the Pana Weatherford Extravaganza. IMO, not as good as the Viognier that was enjoyed before this one, but this wine was a lot more mellowed from the start. A very subdued yet full bodied offering. On the initial nose was a nutty almond and butterscotch. Maybe a hint of tropical fruit but this was not this wine's strongpoint. On the palate was a mild acidity, mild minerality, yet a carbonated backbone that was welcome and went well with the array of meats and cheeses. As the wine opened, the front appeared to have more butterscotch, lemon zest, and vanilla. The layers on this wine was a bit ridiculous after it had been opened for about 2 hours. Sometimes on the palate a nice sweetness would come in and steal the show, almost like a sweet lemon meringue, but would always settle back down to a flinty, lemon. Didn't finish with much of an aftertaste, very little oak, and not many "gym sock" characteristics that start to creep in when tasting these vintages. Very nice, showing its age nicely. Still a very drinkable wine for another 5 years. I'd love to see how another 1-2 years will improve this wine overall.

November 12, 2009 - Bright straw-yellow with greenish hues. Closed, shy nose with minerals, white-fleshed fruitsand some roasted nuts. Mid-full bodied, perfectly balanced, with layers of fruit and balancing acidity. Much more impressive on the palate than on the nose. Long finish. 91+.

November 1, 2009 - Quite a deep golden hue for a wine just four years old. Quite complex aromas of buttered toast, tropical fruits (pineapple?), peaches and also some citrus fruits. They all seem to vye with each other for attention. Very appealing. Smooth, lush palate: more delicious fruit flavours in a buttery yet refreshing style. Fullish-bodied, feels fat in the mouth, accentuating the buttery feel. Long, with crisp acidity on the end rounding off perfectly the freshness of this example. The acidity is perhaps a bit low; there not be much benefit in holding this wine much longer. This is really good, and just about worth what is a hefty price tag for a village wine.
