August 21, 2022 - Lunch with Edouard Labeye with some smart bottles served blind (Radford Dale Organic): (Tasted Blind): The nose shows kirsch, earth and pomace notes with some cherry compote and stemmy pepper notes suggesting stem inclusion. While there is some elegance, the wine is challenging with a firm cherry stalk texture and a cold mineral edge. With a well-structured backbone, this solid wine does improve in the glass to reveal spice and raspberry leading to chalky tannins and a medium finish. However, even if there is a little flesh it never quite coats the tannin frame.
