Community Tasting Notes 5

October 20, 2021 - Tasted at the winery. Dense nose of spice and rubbery dark fruits. Firm tannins. Some savory elements starting to come out. Approaching peak drinking! This is a good vintage of Meritage.

March 29, 2020 - Approachable now but will merit a higher score in the future.

July 27, 2019 - July 2019 Trip to the Finger Lakes; 7/27/2019-7/28/2019 (Seneca Lake): Tasted at the winery. This is their flagship red, and it shows. It sees 100% new oak, but I wouldn't have guessed it--oak is very well integrated.

Strong fruit core--morello cherries, plums, and dried cranberries. All framed by cocoa powder and espresso notes, with a hint of baking spices from the oak. An herbal background from the Cabernet. I would say medium plus tannins, and medium plus acidity. I would say this needs at least five years to settle down, but I think it'll be really awesome in ten years.

June 21, 2019 - Pretty good! Like a cry bourgeois from Bordeaux. Fairly deep color, nose has a sweet black cherry aroma, then raspberries and spice, just a hint of bell pepper (but elusive), palate is tart, but the fruit is ripe. An impressive red for the area.

June 21, 2019 - Finger Lake Wine Tastings 2019; 6/21/2019-6/23/2019 (Ithaca, NY): Some good fruit, cherry, berry, chocolate, herbs, olives and a little green pepper. Needs time (5-6 years says Ken, 10 years says the guy in the tasting room). Sort of like a California or Washington State Bordeaux blend. $33 / bottle at winery
