April 19, 2024 - Intense and earthy showing plum, tobacco, dirt, forest floor and truffle. Medium bodied, high acidity and fine grained tannins. Not a fan of the style. NI:3, FI:19, FC:7, B:3, L:4

January 14, 2022 - Clos Labarde's typical blend is approximately 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This particular bottle was Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over the ensuing 2-3 hours. Opaque ruby in color, it teems with dark currant fruit that is accented with baking spices, licorice, espresso and black olive tapenade. Medium-bodied, seamlessly alcoholic (14%) and with excellent purity of fruit, it buttresses the flavors with fresh acidity, plentiful grippy tannins and a generous amount of oak that has not yet fully integrated. Dense on the mid-palate and concluding with a lengthy, albeit somewhat astringent finish, this needs additional cellar time in order for its components to harmonize. If this fleshes out as anticipated, it will merit a higher score. Drink 2025-2036.
