Community Tasting Notes 1

August 27, 2022 - Dark reddish purple with a clear watery edge in appearance with a nose of ripe and lively young fruit, quite aromatic with lots of brambly twigs and herbal notes in the background. The palate is quite rich and viscous, on the lighter end of full-bodied, very bold and powerful well-structure with a good bit of savory acidity, and quite a lot of alcoholic heat. The flavor components invokes impressions of fresh young dark blue and red candied fruits reminiscent of raisins and plum, and lots of herbaceous undertones such as greenish brambly twigs, tobacco, intermingled with hints of dark chocolate, oak, meat and a distinct and powerful flash of damp rocky minerals toward it’s medium yet impactful finish. Overall in my humble opinion, the intensity and vivaciousness of this wine is very commendable while the acidic and alcoholic components are less than desirable at this juncture in its development. We’ll see how this turn out tomorrow. My prediction is that it would turn south with the acidic component dominating, but then again, I may be wrong. To be continued —

Day 2: Yes, just as anticipated, the sourness is taking over but the wine is sturdy with all other essential components present. Day 4: Amazingly, this turn out to be much more balanced. The acidity which dominated became before has become much more tamed and in proportion to the other essential components. Since I didn't get to try this wine yesterday (Day 3) I was really surprised that this still drinking well and very much alive. I believe that this one have the stuff to last longer than that suggested in the CT community's drinking window.

Apparently, there seems to be some confusion on this wine's designation since there are two separate entries for this very same wine in CT (Mitolo Shiraz Angelia and Mitolo Angela Sandra’s Block). According the information provided on back of the bottle it says that this wine was “a tribute to the matriarchs our families”. The wine growers, the Lopresti family sourced the grapes that were used to make this wine from a single vineyard called “Sandra’s Block” was named after their matriarch named Sandra while the wine producer, Frank Mitolo dedicated this wine in memory of his mother named Angela.
