March 11, 2024 - My girlfriend and me were so glad that we could order in a restaurant a bottle of the Percarlo 2016 (was the last bottle they had). In advance we were not sure whether the wine probably is too young. It was definitely not. It's at the beginning of its drinking window and it's not a sin to open a bottle - especially if you like when the fruit is still present. The color is deep ruby with purple reflexes. On the nose and on the palate the aromas are like an explosion. There are aromas of red cherries, strawberries, dried plums, tobacco leaves, cedar wood, a touch of coffee, leather, smoke, cloves, menthol, black tea and licorice. The wine is very complex. The acidity is high as well as the tannins are. The tannins are present, silky and have a very good quality. The wine is medium(+) bodied and its finish is never ending. It's an extremely well balanced, intense and complex wine with an outstanding length. It has power but it's very elegant at the same time because of its vibrant acidity. What a beauty! This wine is almost perfect. Glass we had: Spiegelau Definition Bordeaux

July 29, 2023 - I nearly killed a Baby. Open at noon for tonight. Starting to enter the very early stages of its drinking window. I've got 5 left and a magnum so super curious. Glad I waited 2023. Translucent Ruby colour yet very thick in the mouth. Cherry, mushroom and still lots of oak but more on a woody/cedary and tobacco profile. No tacky vanilla or new oak whatsoever. Tannins are still pronounced (at opening) but ripe, no dryness whatsoever. Should be perfect with food tonight. Next one will be opened in 3 year I think. Stay tuned for tonight's tasting.

Evening's : well it's too young for my taste, it's a bold style usually not my cup of tea regarding Sangiovese (I love Radda), but sometimes a big broad wine can procure me lots of pleasure. But this time it was too soon. My parents loved it (of course). So if your into voluptuous and bold Sangiovese (Rampolla / Fontodi / Montegrossi) you can start poppin' one, it's already delicious with heavy but polished tannins. Don't hesitate to open it in the morning, as noon was already a bit late I think for the evening. It will hold the night before without a problem I think too.

I had more emotions/pleasure with Fontalloro 2016, one year ago though. Let's see what time can do on both these amazing wines. My score might sounds low I regard with the other tasters but it's to prevent you to open it too soon. Might get 95 in 3 years and 97 after 2030. Who knows...

October 21, 2022 - Color: Deep ruby. Nose: Floral and herbal notes. Spices, too. Reminds me of a luxurious perfume. Cherries, too. Mouth: Excellent length. Medium to full bodied. The alcohol (15%) isn't noticeable. Excellent expressiveness. Very elegant. At the beginning of the drinking window.

June 26, 2022 - A battle of Tuscan titans; 6/26/2022-6/27/2022: I was mesmerized and completely blown away by the '15, and this is just all that and more! Incredible in every way. The complete package of power, focus, length, flavor profile, and elegance. It's all there for this top of the echelon Tuscan Sangiovese. A true treasure and a treat. A wine to be revered and held in the highest esteem.

A mini Tuscan sangiovese cage match -

Drank along with a '15 Salvioni BdM (99), '16 Il Marronneto BdM (94), '15 Costanti BdM (98+), and '19 Le Chiuse RdM (93).

This, and surprisingly, the Salvioni tied for the crown. 99+!

(Slow ox'd 24 hours prior and let sit in the glass 15+ minutes. Held solid throughout the evening)

September 20, 2021 - Drank during excellent dinner in Florence. Super explosive, while primary, with notes of red and dark red cherries, new leather, graphite, lead pencil, also some sweet spices, tobacco leaf, cinnamom, cloves, some flowery notes too and a touch of menthol. Its super concentrated, almost creamy in mouthfeel, but without any kind of heaviness, has high acidity leaving your palate refreshed after every sip, and medium-high tannin that is super polished and silky. Superb length. An absolutely epic Percarlo and probably one of the very best they have ever made (and they have made a ton of excellent vintages). Love it. (98+)
