March 4, 2023 - A heap of depth about this. Time on lees shows. Has both a creaminess about it as well as a talc mouthfeel. Really like this and has a fair bit of upside too. No rush the rest. Start on the ‘19 great western label.

August 6, 2021 - Ah, my second bottle from the batch. First was great and this was even better. Beautifully balanced acidity, a slight spritz feature in the mouth, and a harmonious mix of rose petal, citrus and creamy stone fruit that brings out salinity wonderfully. Complex, yet a guzzler. What a difference a few months can make, especially if it’s only up from here!

June 13, 2021 - Six months on, this is looking much better. Acidity has settled, feels much more in balance. Excellent pairing with Vietnamese slow cooked pork belly.

November 26, 2020 - Grapey. Very grapey this Riesling. Even for a Riesling. Flinty nose with talc and red apple. There’s a floral nose in there but I can’t pick it today.
On entry the slippery residual sugar (it’s off dry) and acidity crackle and buzz. Mandarin and other citrus, with a touch of spicy ginger, rest on crunchy green apple malic acid.
The finish, which tells me it’s hit the Riesling ‘dumb adolescence’ phase (it’s just a phase) feels like pastry and cream. Mix in the lime and you get a lime curd tart sort of thing going on.
It’s very long, just a bit sullen as it falls in to that dull 2 to 5 years Riesling lull. It feels like it’s shutting the door.
93 with a big upside. Either it’s having an off day, or I am. Look again in 5 years.
Ps- drank at cellar temperature 14 degrees. Will try colder tonight.
PPS- winemaker notes this spent time on its lees. Explains the pastry notes, an unusual treatment in Aussie Riesling. It’s a good shift.
Ppps- very high acid in this wine. Really felt sensitive teeth after this one. Drink with food to buffer.2 people found this helpful Comment
