Community Tasting Notes 7

  • driftless Likes this wine:

March 2, 2023 - This wine showed a decent amount of browning on the rim - especially for it's age. Ripe Italian plum is at the core of both aroma and taste. The plum fruit supports some graphite on the nose; and some savory, funk, and charcoal on the palate. Upon opening, the fruit and non-fruit elements seem out of sync. The wine is more cohesive after an hour decant. Two hours in the decanter really makes it sing.

January 6, 2023 - Opened for side-by-side with 2017 Cs Stoneridge Vineyard. More liked this one for it's finese, I like the other for its power and deep flavors. Can't go wrong either way, but the side-by-side did show the subtle differences between two similar wines and styles.

October 1, 2022 - This was probably outstanding two years ago, but it's too purely fruit-driven and is aging awkwardly. The quality of fruit is excellent, the style surprisingly restrained both in alcohol and extract, and it's still delicious. Maybe great again in a few years, but I wouldn't trust it to come around. 13%.

June 30, 2022 - This was one of the most enjoyable cabs I've had in a while - at any price point. The fact it's under $40 was a happy coincidence. Wish I'd bought more.

  • JLaRoche Does not like this wine:

September 3, 2021 - This is not quite to my taste; may be a great wine for those who like the tasting profile. This had strong notes of chocolate and dried fruit and not as much balance with herbal/savory notes.
