August 20, 2020 - Decanted three hours before serving, the 2017 Scavino BdA Affinato in Carati is a baby. It’s a concentrated wine, but with remarkable structure and complexity for a Barbera. It has a deep, dark color with very bright edges, intense aromas and flavors of sweet, dark fruits, and fragrances of sweet spice. It has remarkable freshness, sappy acidity, and gentle tannins. Neither the wood nor the alcohol is obvious. Long, sappy, satisfying finish.

Along with the 2009 Vajra BdAS and the 2016 Cigliutti BdA Campass, this is one of the finest Barberas I have ever tasted. At $25 this is a very good QPR for lovers of high-toned, wood-aged Barbera. Drink 2020-2030.

January 24, 2020 - Very good. Balanced, oak very well integrated. Fresh with good acidity. The typicity of Barbera is very much present in this wine. Highly recommended!

December 25, 2019 - Was so sick that I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I would’ve liked. But it was still great.
