November 13, 2022 - Saturday night with Auntie Ro and Braised Shortrib (Leafy West London): I was just looking for one more glass, so opened something that should be even better tomorrow. Well Musar is a fickle beast and this was just open and ready to go on pouring. Super expressive nose - a hint of funk, brett is there but for me comfortably on the right side of the "interesting / fecal" line. On the palate - reminds me of nothing more than...1999 Musar. Again - the animale Musar nature is in service to the wine and not overpowering it, just enough funk to be interesting, there's a hint of herbaceousness - if someone told you they'd mixed some 20 year old cab franc into the blend, you'd believe them. A savouriness but also an almost creamy openness. This is a really good Musar - and drinking great now.

September 15, 2022 - A friend back from Florida (67 Pall Mall, London): £19.50/glass at 67PM. Black fruit incl cassis, spice/cedar, deep, rich yet fresh. Wine of the night, would seek out again with pleasure.

September 8, 2022 - Dark crimson in colour. Leather, a touch of old library and slightly overripe blue fruits on the nose. The wine has high acidity and quite supple tannins, it's medium bodied, and showing very savoury and slightly overly concentrated red fruits on the palate whilst remaining linear rather than expansive, yet on the finish my impression is contradicted by lingering red fruit succulence. An interesting wine for the connoisseurs rather than a wine to appeal to those looking for hedonistic pleasure. BTG from Zalto Bordeaux. 14% ABV.

July 24, 2022 - My last bottle, for the time being perhaps, illustrates the bottle variability of Musar. Like my previous bottle about 2 months ago, this was decanted (removing light+ sediment, perhaps more than the previous bottle) for about 7 hours. But the result has quite a bit more weight than the previous one.

There's sweet red fruit on the nose; just a touch of acetone. On the palate the classic Musar spiciness, red fruit (redcurrants, maybe even pomegranate), a little bite of acidity on the mid-palate (much moderated from the medium+ acidity when first opened), and the finish coats the mouth in very light smooth tannins.

As always the QPR at the ~US$41 that I paid is excellent.

July 8, 2022 - Beautiful nose with earthy and mushroom notes. On the palate fine red fruits and an elegant acidity. Great complexity and balance. Drink up until 2028. (IG)
