May 15, 2021 - Followed over 6 hours or so. Darker fruit and really powerful (but not overdone). So much going on here. Tasty now but really needs some age. Last glass was the best. Outstanding wine in the making.

May 1, 2021 - This is perhaps the finest young Volnay I’ve had. The nose is already effusive with pure, dark Pinot fruit. And the palate is just insanely concentrated and complex, brimming with layers of dark berry fruit, fine minerals, and a healthy kick of spice. Very dense and crunchy, with some sharp angles and muscularity as Lafarge often has. Super long and classy. While this is on the darker end of the spectrum, it’s not even remotely overblown—it’s plenty bright and the overall balance is unimpeachable. Delicious now but built for the ages.

Exceptionnel. 97+ pts

February 11, 2020 - Barrel Tasting at Domaine Lafarge (Volnay): Intense aromatics. Wow, the palate is stuffed with concentrated red fruits and is showing power I don't often find in Lafarge wines. Will need 15+ year in the cellar. 93-94+

February 11, 2020 - Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. A hypothetical mix of the Mitans and Caillerets, with the best elements of each. This has the minerality and brightness of the Caillerets, as well as the fruit-forward character of the Mitans. A good hit of tannins here as well. I loved this, until I tasted the Clos du Château des Ducs (actually I still do).
