June 27, 2020 - Appearance: medium ruby, slight violet highlights, very light staining, no rim variation nor sediment.
Nose: clean, youthful, medium+ intensity, ripe red cherry, fresh strawberry, blackberry, orange peel, violet, black pepper, savory herbs, licorice, clay pot, gravel, new leather.
Palate: dry, medium+ acid, medium tannin, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body, medium finish, medium+ intensity, ripe red cherry, ripe strawberry, blackberry, boysenberry, black plum, violet, savory herbs, licorice, clay pot, gravel, new leather, almond.
Overall: A fresh and fruity Nero d'Avola, but with solid fruit intensity and plenty of floral/herbal and earthy complexity to keep it interesting. The lack of intrusive oak, along with the moderate alcohol and tannins, keeps the wine very focused and extremely food friendly. This is just delightful to drink on its own, and a wonderful partner for pizza.
