June 23, 2023 - I have praised Linden's other 2017 single vineyard Chardonnay, the Avenius. This one is also beautiful, and both are more to my liking than most premium west coast Chardonnay. Neither the Avenius nor the Hardscrabble are voluptuous-styled Chards of bountiful volume. Instead they are closer to the intensely flavored, mineral laced, citrus-note wines of Chablis.

The Hardscrabble is the riper, creamier and more evolved and brooding of the two, the Avenius, the more mineral and dazzling with its zippy acidity and scintillating, twinkling palate. What a great pair! Both share a purity of fruit and just a light kiss of oak. At six years this Hardscrabble is opening up and shedding some of its early tightness.

July 13, 2021 - Tasted next to the 2014 and 2015 and shows a very similar vein.
I would have liked to see a little more aromatic richness.
The texture is not very generous and the acidity is again allowed to dominate the conversation.

    September 20, 2020 - Notes from day 2.
    N lemon, citrus, herb, cream
P lemon, hint of cream, citrus, little herb, minerals
F above average in length, decent to good acidity, good mouthfeel
Overall another solid wine from Jim, seemed like a warmer vintage perhaps.

    May 17, 2020 - At then open:
Smells of rubber, flint, & lemon
Tastes of lemon, grapefruit, and minerals
    High sharp horizontal acid

This wine is compelling and it will be fun to watch it evolve. It is fruit forward, but supported by a balanced minerality. It feels like it has a lot to say, but that it isn't ready to say it. It is still collecting its thoughts.
