December 31, 2023 - Finally hitting its stride with tertiary notes of leather and old wood. Beautiful with smoked pork.

July 27, 2023 - I may be a bit stingy here, this is only 15 min post-decanting, we'll see as it opens up. Received a half-case last week, should be over bottle shock, and I am favorably impressed -- plan to serve this with a lamb-based Greek salad. More alcohol on the nose than I expected from the ABV, but pleasant and taste resolves very well, cherries, dark fruit, a little smoke, and beautifully balanced. As a 2009, tasting likely at or near peak, I won't plan to cellar any past a year at most, and not sure they'll last that long. Perfect for tapas, almost in the way that a heavier Sonoma Pinot Noir like Arista would work. Truly excellent QPR.

May 21, 2023 - Lighter bodied Rioja with some Pinot characteristics like strawberry rhubarb and sour cherry. A nuanced wine entering a good drinking period, nice character and charm with herb, games meat, menthol, tobacco and leather. Not a blockbuster but honestly I don’t want to drink a full bodied wine every night….

January 4, 2023 - For me, the nose seem completely subdued on first opening. After a half hour open, it’s cloves and dark fruit—again suggesting fruit cake and Bordeaux. Needs fatty pork to subdue the tannins and bring out the fruit. Quite nice and consistent with prior notes but a bit subdued on the fruit side. Drink up; while this is quite nice and isn't falling apart anytime soon, I also can't see it improving much.

January 30, 2022 - It is so interesting how season affects my taste in wine. Nose is cloves, cedar, nutmeg, and dark fruit. Palate is awesome, echoing the same flavors in a way that I never get with other wines. Like fruit cake meets Bordeaux and had a love child. My sense is that shows a neat side of grenache— a grape I normally don’t flock to. So what to pair this with? Clearly screams pork to me, preferably smoked, as that has a sweeter taste than beef. Ah, jamon iberico! Yeah, that would be a killer with this. Definitely needs the fat, smoky, and meaty accompaniment.
