March 4, 2019 - I'm not entirely sure if this is a one-off cuvée made in this particular vintage. 12,5% alcohol.

Deep, concentrated godlen yellow color with a coppery core. Massively concentrated, powerful and brooding nose with robust aromas of caramel, roasted nuts, some syrupy richness, a little bit of saffron, light dried pineapple tones, a hint of smoky minerality and a touch of cinnamon. The wine is dry, heavy and oily - even slightly sticky - on the poalate with concentrated yet still somewhat flat and hollow flavors of dried pineapple, roasted nuts, some caramel, a little bit of smoke, light woody notes, a little bit of cinnamon, a hint of dull creaminess and a mature touch of cooked apricots and bruised apples. The acidity feels quite modest, which only exacerbates the heavy and ponderous mouthfeel of the wine. The finish is somewhat sweet-toned, brooding and oily with powerful, overripe flavors of syrupy molasses, some toasty woody tones, a little bit of dried pineapple, light smoky tones, a hint of fruit cake and a touch of nuttiness.

A very weird and noticeably powerful wine that is both very complex and still somewhat dull and flat at the same time. The wine shows impressive depth and complexity with tons of tertiary characteristics, but the wine feels a bit too massive, concentrated and ponderous with its super-concentrated fruit and rather modest acidity. I have no idea what is the story behind this wine - is it a late-harvest cuvée? A dry botrytized white? An off-dry white that has lost the sweetness from the taste with the age? I really don't know. The aged complexity here would easily warrant a solid +90 point rating, but the dull, ponderous and heavy overall character certainly take their toll on the drinkability and pleasure, so I guess an upper-mid 80's score is appropriate.
